Kitsch'n Bar

While most bars near the station keep things stripped back and functional, Kitsch'n Bar leans hard into accumulation: found objects, visual jokes, a general sense that someone has been collecting things for years and decided the bar was the right place for all of it. It shouldn't work as well as it does, but here we are.

The food list is short, which is the right call. Tartines are the backbone — solid, unpretentious, worth ordering. The house salad holds its own, and the eponymous 'kitsch' dish is the one to try if you're new here. Prices stay genuinely low, which matters when you're a five-minute walk from Strasbourg's main train station and every surrounding option knows it can charge whatever it wants to passing travelers.

The spot works across different modes: pull up a bar seat solo on a Tuesday, book a table for a group dinner on the weekend, bring your dog when the terrace is open. There's outdoor seating when the Alsatian weather cooperates, and the whole place has the kind of low-key energy that makes it a reliable neighborhood fixture rather than a one-time destination.

Honest caveat: service reviews are split. Some visitors describe genuinely warm, patient staff — a few mention quite the opposite. It's not consistent enough to ignore, so temper expectations on busy nights.

Bottom line: Quartier Gare has plenty of places to drink near the tracks. This one actually has a personality.
