Le Moulin du Diable

Most places along les canaux in Petite France lean hard on the colombages-and-tourists formula and don't feel the need to try harder. Le Moulin du Diable isn't doing that. It's tucked into the ground floor of a residential building on rue Finkwiller — the kind of address you walk past if no one tips you off — and it runs a tight, personality-forward menu of galettes and crêpes that rewards paying attention. The galette au Munster delivers serious cheese without drowning the buckwheat underneath. The Piquante, with its pepper ice cream, shows the kitchen isn't just going through the motions.

The room is small and cluttered with bric-à-brac in the best sense — this is someone's place, not a concept. It sits a couple of minutes on foot from les Ponts Couverts, just far enough from the place Benjamin-Zix foot traffic that it stayed local-facing longer than most. The regulars here aren't looking for a view of the Ill; they're looking for a good galette at a fair price with staff who actually recommend things worth ordering.

Practical notes: reservations are genuinely worth making, especially on weekends — the room fills fast and seating is limited. That said, reviewers have shown up without one and been seated, so the operation has some flex. Dogs are welcome, groups are manageable, kids aren't a problem. Beer and wine on offer.
