“Lard et Crème earns its regulars the honest way: portions that actually justify loosening your belt, and an Alsatian menu that doesn't hedge.”
While other Neudorf spots might lean on atmosphere or a tight seasonal menu to make their case, Lard et Crème leads with abundance — braised pork knuckle that falls apart on the fork, a cordon bleu with a genuinely crispy crust and a munster sauce that means business, and a choucroute garnie that gets the acidity right (not the sharp, aggressive kind that makes you wince). This is a winstub that takes its job seriously without taking itself seriously.
The tarte flambée is the obvious opener, and it does what it should. But regulars from around the neighborhood know the choucroute is the real measure of this kitchen. Order the riesling — the list is short, honest, and local. If you're arriving early and your group is trickling in, the bar side works fine for apéro while you wait.
Practical note: dinner service starts at 18:30, and by 19:00 the room is full. Book ahead, especially for groups or weekend evenings. The service runs efficiently when it's slammed, but don't expect much hand-holding — staff are moving fast and the room is loud in the best way. English speakers are welcomed warmly even if the conversation stays simple.
The outdoor seating is worth it when the weather cooperates, and the place is genuinely relaxed about kids and dogs — no performance of welcome required, just actual ease. For the price point, it's one of the better deals in this part of Strasbourg, which is probably why visitors on short stays end up coming back twice before they leave.
