That alone separates Le Platz from its neighbors in the ruelles nearby, who can trade on history and good cooking but not on that particular front-row seat.

What keeps this from being a view-only proposition is the food holding its own. The braised pork falls off the bone properly, the onion soup is the real thing, and the staff take actual time with the menu rather than rushing the table. For a spot sitting square on the cathedral square, that warmth isn't guaranteed — and here it feels genuine.

A few things worth knowing before you go: the interior is compact, and at peak lunch hours the wait can stretch. If you're coming in a group, book ahead — walk-ins are fine for two but dicey for six. Pricing is fair across most of the card, though the menu has a couple of odd mismatches (a barely-dressed chicken Caesar priced close to the duck is the kind of thing that sticks in the memory).
