Austerlitz Square Garden

Most spots around here lean hard into the zinc-bar-and-local-beer formula. Austerlitz Square Garden does something else: it sits firmly in that hybrid zone between a proper cocktail bar and a casual brasserie, with an urban fit-out — glowing screens, red neons, dark interior — that feels more like a neighbourhood living room after 9pm than a daytime café. It caps out at around fifty people, which keeps the atmosphere tight rather than sprawling.

The menu is built for grazing and sharing: mixed platters, hot-dogs, the kind of food that plays well with a round of cocktails and doesn't demand your full attention. Perfect if you're warming up before a night along the quai des Bateliers, or just settling in for a long apéro that turns into dinner without anyone planning it that way.

Kids are welcome early in the evening — a few regulars bring theirs and report no issues — and the staff, still finding their stride after a recent opening, are by all accounts genuinely warm about it. The vibe is dark and a little funky without being exclusive about it.

Practical notes: the outdoor seating is worth timing for warmer evenings. Reservations are available and worth making on weekends given the size; weeknights you can usually walk in. With only fifty seats, showing up early is always the smarter move.
