Pan y Vino

Most bars in Krutenau will pour you a decent wine and maybe put a charcuterie board in front of you. Pan y Vino does something more specific — pintxos in the Basque tradition, pimientos de Padrón, huevos rotos, a wine list that doesn't hedge toward France. It's not a theme-park version of Spain; it's a place where the logic of eating is different, small plates arriving in waves, shared without much fuss.

Sitting right off place d'Austerlitz, it slots naturally into how Krutenau actually works after dark: somewhere between a long apéro and a full dinner, depending on how hungry you are and how good the conversation gets. The room has energy without being loud, the staff moves fast on a packed Friday, and the outdoor seating makes it one of the better warm-weather options on this side of the neighborhood.

Honest caveats: the menu is long, which means some things are more consistent than others. A few fried tapas have arrived on the cooler side, and the bathrooms need more attention than they get. These are real things. But the Basque pintxos and the cold tapas are reliable, and the wine program is genuinely Spanish — not a token gesture.

Reservations are worth making for weekends. Weeknights you can usually walk in. If you're going with a group, the sharing format makes it easy to order broadly and find something for every corner of the table.
