“The 7-Eleven on Fern Street is South Park's most democratic institution—open when nothing else is, judged by nobody, serving everybody.”
Where KINDRED demands you care about seitan sourcing and Curryosity asks you to parse a build-your-own format, this 7-Eleven asks nothing. It's the corner shop that's there at 2 a.m. when you need beer, at 6 a.m. when you need coffee, at noon when you forgot ice. It's not trying to be charming. It's trying to be open, which in a walkable neighborhood is its own kind of service.
The reviews split exactly how you'd expect: long-timers mourning what it used to be, newcomers annoyed it's not cleaner, regulars who've made peace with it. The coffee's often old. The floor's often sticky. The guy in the curly hair apparently has an attitude problem. None of this stops it from being the most-visited spot on anyone's Sunday ritual who forgot something.
What it does well: stocking the basics without trying to be Whole Foods, staying open when the rest of Fern Street rolls up for the night, operating a functional rewards app that actually saves you money if you're buying Slurpees at any volume. The pizza-and-Big-Gulp combo shows up in the five-star reviews for a reason—it's $6, it's hot, it's there.
Practical notes: Don't expect receipt paper at the gas pumps. Don't expect the coffee to be fresh after 3 p.m. Do expect the beer selection to be cold and the checkout line to move faster than you think, even when it looks chaotic. Park on the street; the lot's cramped and everyone's doing a quick in-and-out anyway.
This isn't the 7-Eleven you recommend to visitors. It's the one you defend to neighbors who complain, then visit twice that week anyway because you're out of half-and-half and it's right there.
