About this spot

Breakfast Republic turns breakfast into a full production—craft cocktails, brewery-level beer selection, and dishes that read like dinner menus repurposed for morning eggs.

**What sets this apart:** While most Gaslamp spots lean hard into tacos or save their full bar and creative energy for dinner service, Breakfast Republic went the opposite direction—they built a proper morning drinking program and an all-day breakfast menu that treats 9 AM like prime time. You're not choosing between coffee and mimosas; you're looking at 20+ craft beers, inventive cocktails, and breakfast plates that involve shrimp, crab cakes, and bacon in ways that suggest the kitchen's actually awake.

The cinnamon roll pancakes deliver on the Instagram promise without crossing into too-sweet territory. The shrimp and crab cake eggs benedict gets consistent love in reviews for good reason—the crab has actual texture, not filler mush. The breakfast burger handles the savory-morning crowd. And they're squeezing orange juice fresh, which sounds basic until you realize how many places don't bother.

Service moves fast even when it's slammed. Fifteen-minute waits on weekends are common, but once you're seated, the staff works like they're all on the same team instead of separate planets. The vibe skews casual and quirky without trying too hard—art on the walls, relaxed energy, space to breathe even in the Gaslamp tourist crush.

**The practical stuff:** Downtown location means parking's the usual Gaslamp nightmare—look for nearby structures or walk from your hotel. They do takeout and delivery if you'd rather skip the wait. Kid-friendly setup, outdoor seating available, and the menu covers vegetarians without relegating them to sad toast. Goes from family breakfast to date-brunch to tourist groups without the identity crisis most all-day spots suffer from.

Common questions

FAQ

Do I need a reservation or can I just walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome and move pretty quickly — reviewers report being seated in about 15 minutes even during busy weekend brunch. That said, Gaslamp Quarter gets slammed on weekend mornings, so arriving early (before 10 a.m.) or going on a weekday lunch gives you a much better shot at immediate seating.
What should I order first?
Start with their freshly squeezed OJ and the Shrimp & Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, which reviewers rave about for its rich, balanced flavors. If you're not an eggs person, the Breakfast Burger and Cinnamon Roll Pancakes get serious praise for being substantial without being heavy — and their in-house Mexican Mocha coffee is legitimately worth the trip alone.
Is there parking nearby?
You're in downtown Gaslamp Quarter, so street parking is tight and paid meters are standard. Nearby parking garages exist but fill up quickly on weekends. If you're driving, arrive early or use a lot — don't count on finding convenient street spots during brunch hours.
Is this place good for kids?
Absolutely — it's tagged as family-friendly and casual, with the vibe that works for everyone from toddlers to grandparents. The menu has classics kids actually eat, the staff goes out of their way to be helpful (reviewers consistently praise hospitality), and the relaxed atmosphere means nobody minds if your kid makes noise.
Do you have vegetarian and dietary options?
Yes, they offer vegetarian options and can handle various dietary needs, though specifics aren't listed in their standard menu. Call ahead (707 G St, San Diego) if you have strict requirements like gluten-free or vegan — the staff's reputation for attentiveness suggests they'll take good care of you.
What's the best time to go if I want to avoid a wait?
Weekday lunch beats weekend brunch every time if you want a relaxed experience. If you're set on weekend brunch, get there before 9:30 a.m. or after 1 p.m. — the sweet spot when tourists and locals aren't all fighting for tables at once.
Can I sit outside?
Yes, outdoor seating is available, which is great for soaking up the Gaslamp Quarter vibe and people-watching. During San Diego's perfect weather, this is the move — though it can get loud with foot traffic.

I went to the Breakfast Republic at their downtown location over the weekend and had a really great experience. Even though it was busy, we were seated in about 15 mins. The ambiance is casual and relaxed. We started with their in-house freshly squeezed orange juice and the Breakfast Republic specialty latte with vanilla, chai, and mocha. Both were delicious. The OJ was refreshing, and the latte was comforting. For food, we ordered the Hot Chick Benedict and their Chilaquiles. Everything was flavorful and satisfying, with generous portions and well-seasoned sauces. We also tried their limited-time special, the Golden Harvest French Toast, and this was the highlight. The brioche French toast topped with ricotta, fig jam, cinnamon-roasted pears, and a sweet honeycomb crumble was absolutely amazing. It was rich & perfectly sweet, and we honestly devoured the whole plate. Overall, a really enjoyable brunch with great drinks and standout food.

We were lookin for a place to have breakfast while visiting San Diego from Texas. We walked in to this place out of the blue . We got seated asap (table 2 ) and we had phenomenal service. Everyone was working together which was a breath of fresh air. From the host to the server to the bus boy. Everyone seems looks happy to work there and all had great attitude. Food was amazing as well! Highly recommend the Bacon Pancakes and my wife loved their Cafe de Oya. Will definitely be back.

Breakfast Republic absolutely brings together great food, great vibe, and truly standout service. First off, Kayla deserves a massive shoutout, she was phenomenal. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful in everything she did. She checked in at all the right moments, made sure everything was perfect, and brought such positive energy to the table. Experiences like this are rare, and she’s absolutely the kind of team member who elevates the entire restaurant. Seriously, give her a raise! What we ordered: Orange juice & coffee – refreshing and a perfect start Protein pancakes – absolutely amazing, fluffy and satisfying Chicken fennel sausage with scrambled eggs – flavorful and cooked perfectly Side of turkey bacon – crisp and delicious Side of French toast with strawberry and mascarpone – sweet, creamy, and indulgent in the best way The food was delicious and tasted incredibly fresh. You could really tell the ingredients are high quality. On top of that, the place has an awesome vibe lively, welcoming, and perfect for a relaxed breakfast or brunch. Between the food, the atmosphere, and Kayla’s exceptional service, this was an easy five-star experience. Can’t wait to come back.

We ate at Breakfast Republic in San Diego and it absolutely delivered. I ordered the Shrimp & Crab Cake Eggs Benedict — and wow. So, so good. The flavors were rich and perfectly balanced, and the crab cake had great texture. My wife took a few bites and immediately said it might be the best breakfast dish in San Diego. She ordered the San Diego Eggs Benedict and enjoyed it — saying it was flavorful and really well done — but even she admitted mine stole the show. If you’re deciding what to order… go with the Shrimp & Crab Cake Eggs Bene. You won’t regret it. And our waitress was amazing!

Service and hospitality was great from everyone. Food was delicious. Mexican Mocha coffee was really good, the OJ was freshly squeezed and superb. Breakfast burger was thumbs up! I got the cinnamon roll pancakes and was impressed. It was not overly sweet at all and very good. The line was long but moved quickly.
