Visiting San Diego and stopped at Filippi’s on a recommendation for great pizza and family-friendly service. Absolutely wonderful experience.
We were greeted with a huge smile by our server, Kippy, who is a big reason this is a 5-star review. She took the time to share the history of the restaurant, local favorite pizza variations, and wine recommendations—never rushed, just genuinely welcoming.
We ordered the Garden Salad, The Works pizza, and the house Chianti. The pizza was delicious—exceptional crust and sauce. The crust is more Italian bread-style with a crispy undercarriage, and the sauce is nicely zesty, not sweet. The salad was large, fresh, and filling.
We sat outside to people-watch, which made the experience even better. Kippy’s service was attentive, professional, and warm throughout.
Highly recommend! 🍕🍷
Good old Filipis! Been going here for 6 years we go about twice a year here on the mandatory California trips. Always get a Pizza and some type of pasta, always has great service and fantastic food! My kids eat everything off their plates which is very rare! Nice to get parking when going down to little Italy and just absolutely love the market environment! This is a good spot!
Its been over 10 years since Ive been here and let me tell you the pizza is damn good. Parking isn’t too bad in the area and the walk to the restaurant will help your hunger for the big portions. The price for the pizza isn’t too bad for the area either, these guys definitely beat out those clout chasers that charge $30+ for a cheese pizza. Garlic knots slap here too. Scenery in the restaurant is the cherry on top, really adds to the experience. Only issue was that I was late to get my food by almost 10 minutes and I had to wait another 10 after arriving.
We were looking for a place to get some Italian food close to our hotel and picked Fillipi’s. We had the shrimp Fillipi and it was A: delicious and B: generous. My wife and I split a portion and still took half of it home. The atmosphere was great and Bo, our server was wonderful. Informative and friendly she made the meal even better. A great dining experience!
We tried this place and ordered pizza and a cappuccino. Honestly, the cappuccino was disappointing — it tasted instant and came with sugar already in it. I expected an espresso-based drink. When I asked about it, the waitress told me, “I don’t know where are you from, that’s just how we serve cappuccino here,” which didn’t feel very welcoming. The pizza was fine, but nothing special.
On the positive side, the interior feels authentic and there’s a private parking lot, which is super convenient since street parking is tough around here. Overall, I’d call it a mixed experience.
