Now listen here. In all my years of eatin’ in San Diego — and Lord knows I’ve stooped low enough to hit a Jack in the Box at 2 AM — this was the sorriest excuse for a burger I have EVER put in my mouth.
Ordered online. Picture looked GOOD. Bacon, cheese, onions, a big ol’ patty — looked like somethin’ worth waitin’ for. Then it showed up lookin’ like it had given up on life. Cold patty. One paper-thin slice of cheese like they were savin’ the rest for the next fella. Onions? Gone. Vanished. Disappeared like my daddy goin’ out for cigarettes in ‘84. And I kid you not — ONE pickle. Not pickles. A SINGULAR pickle. Just one lonely little rascal sittin’ in there like he drew the short straw. I’ve seen more effort at a gas station.
And the BACON? The bacon that was front and center in that pretty little picture? DOESN’T COME ON THE BURGER. Now where I’m from, we call that lyin’. And my daddy didn’t raise me to be quiet about a liar.
When I tell you this burger was lighter than the stack of napkins it came with, I ain’t stretchin’ the truth one bit. I’ve caught MINNOWS in my backyard pond with more meat on ’em.
Do yourself a favor, brother — go to The Friendly. Cheaper, bigger, and they actually put what’s on the description ON the burger. This place right here? Boy, this place ain’t worth the gas it took the delivery driver to get it here.

PRO TIP - a double is more like a quad (see pics). So if you are worried about not getting enough meat with a single or double they add enough to equate it to regular thick style burger single or double. Kinda like a Cuban sandwich that has many slices of meat it’s like that. Unbelievable juicy and greasy which I enjoyed thoroughly. Stringy onions were elite. The loaded fries were great seemed to be higher quality cheese than the in and out animal fries. Over really expensive but worth it for special occasions.
*(pictures not from here, for comparison)
Don't get me wrong, the burger was pretty decent, but the price is just absolutely absurd for what you get. Got a double cheeseburger with jalapeno and bacon and it was over $17...for maybe 1/8 lb smash patties, barely any bacon, and a few jalapenos? Honestly, the most unsatisfying $17 I've ever spent. Would need about 3 of them to fill me up. It should have been like $8, $10 max. Absolutely crazy. It's a shame, cuz its pretty good food, but I will never be back for these prices.
For reference, this is what you can get from The Melt for the EXACT SAME PRICE! Compare that to the other pictures from For The Win... It's pathetic. You can get 3 times the meat, twice the cheese, 4 times the bacon, onion straws, and more for the same price elsewhere and actually leave full. There's literally no reason to go here...
After a 5 mile run on Mission Beach a cheeseburger and Dr. Pepper hit the spot. Really into smashburgers and have been hearing good things about For the Win. Bun is soft and balances the seasoned patty. Cheese is perfectly melted and onions have a nice crisp. Single patty is enough for lunch but double would be better for dinner or if you want to enter a food coma after. Fries are crispy and seasoned well.
Went right at 11AM and Johnny the cook checked in with me and we talked about burgers in San Diego. Kudos to Johnny for cooking and amazing burger and friendly customer service.
FYI Outdoor sidewalk eating, only 2 tables. I don't like to take burgers home and eat them fresh right there.
Complete let down burger was just all right I asked for no pickles and wanted to add bacon well I got pickles and NO bacon and it was not busy at all one other person so no excuses if you pay for bacon they should probably give you bacon. Burger was very greasy also french fries were decent a little over salted. For the Win should be ashamed of there first San Diego location these guys just don't care and they need to start because they definitely have better burgers down the street
