While village cafes charge $18 for avocado toast with a glimpse of the cove, Pinpoint delivers the same Pacific panorama at half the cost, perched on the bluff near the Birch Aquarium. You're trading polished service for self-order counters and limited menu options, but if you want that marine layer view without the markup, this is where UCSD staff and grad students go when they need to remind themselves why they live here.

The space works best as a coffee-and-walk situation. Grab an iced Mexican mocha (get the larger size — reviewers consistently wish they had) and take it along the Biological Grade path that runs behind the building. The deck seating exists, but it's basic — metal chairs, not lounge-worthy. This isn't a linger-for-hours setup; it's a grab-your-matcha-and-stare-at-the-ocean-for-twenty-minutes kind of place.

Food is hit-or-miss. The avocado toast skews sweet — one reviewer noted it tasted like syrup — and they've been known to run out of bread by early afternoon. Stick to drinks and simple items. Matcha options are solid if that's your thing.

Parking is the main hassle. One hour behind the building up the hill, or street parking if you're staying longer.
