About this spot

Mimoza is the Gaslamp's Turkish-leaning Mediterranean spot that pivots from business lunch to date night without changing the playlist.

**What makes this different:** While your Gaslamp options mostly swing Mexican or lean into party-district energy, Mimoza occupies a quieter lane—Turkish and Mediterranean plates built for lingering, not just fueling up before the next bar. You're not choosing between tacos or surf-themed chaos here. You're getting Adana kebab, kunefe for dessert, and cocktails that don't taste like they came from a gun.

The space works across contexts better than most downtown spots. Business lunches happen here without feeling forced. Date nights don't require you to shout. Pre-show dinners move efficiently when you need them to. The decor leans into Mediterranean warmth—enough character to notice, not so much that it distracts from conversation.

The falafel shows up consistently in reviews as genuinely good, not just menu filler. The chicken Adana gets praise for actually being tender and properly spiced. The kunefe—a Turkish dessert involving cheese, shredded phyllo, and syrup—is made fresh and worth ordering even if you think you're too full. The hummus is solid but not revelatory. The pita bread occasionally disappoints (reviewers note it can arrive underwhelming), but the tahini sauce saves drier items like the doner kebab wrap.

Service tends toward friendly and efficient—bartenders make sitting at the bar feel like the right move, and the staff has a track record of going out of their way (one owner reportedly coordinated returning a forgotten camera). Reservations matter on weekends; walk-ins on a Friday evening will likely mean waiting. Parking in the Gaslamp is the usual nightmare—budget extra time or just Uber in.

The vibe stays consistent whether you're here at lunch or dinner, which is rare for this neighborhood. It's a go-to for when you want Mediterranean food that isn't just hummus and pita, in a room that doesn't feel like it's trying to be three different things at once.

Common questions

FAQ

Do I need a reservation, or can I just walk in?
Friday and Saturday nights get packed—if you're going then, book ahead. Weeknight walk-ins are usually fine, but a reservation guarantees you won't be standing around in the Gaslamp Quarter crowds. The spot takes reservations, so grab one if you're timing it around a show or after-work drinks.
What's the parking situation like?
Gaslamp Quarter parking is tight and often pricey—street spots are competitive, and lots fill up fast. Your best move: valet if they offer it, or arrive earlier and hunt for the residential side streets a block or two away. Don't expect easy in-and-out on weekends.
What should I order first?
Skip past the Beef Borek—reviewers weren't fans. Go straight for the falafel and hummus appetizer (consistently praised), then hit the lamb shish kabob or Chicken Adona for mains. The bartenders know their cocktails, so ask them to build something rather than ordering by name.
Is this a good spot before catching a show?
Absolutely. It's close to Balboa Park theaters and the service is quick without feeling rushed. You've got indoor and outdoor seating, so you can dine at your pace and still make curtain. Just give yourself an extra 15 minutes for Gaslamp parking chaos.
Do you have good vegetarian and vegan options?
Yes—the falafel is legit, hummus is solid, and they list vegetarian options on the menu. Mediterranean food is naturally accommodating for plant-based diners, though you'll want to ask about oil and sauce prep when ordering. Tahini is your friend if something feels dry on its own.
Is it kid-friendly, and what's the vibe like?
Casual enough for families but also works as a date spot or business lunch—it reads versatile. The decor and ambiance are nice without being stuffy, so kids won't feel out of place at lunch or early dinner. Gaslamp Quarter foot traffic means it's lively, not quiet.
Can I sit outside?
They have both indoor and outdoor seating, though outdoor spots are limited in the Gaslamp Quarter. You'll get the neighborhood energy sitting outside, but weather and street noise come with it. Indoor seating is comfortable if you want calmer conditions.

We had a reservation for 7 pm on a Friday evening, it was quite busy so glad we had that reservation. Initally walking in, there is a very nice vibe and decor to the restaurant. We ended up ordering the Beef Borek as the starter. This we did not like as much, we were fortunate to try some really nice authentic borek over the years but this one seems to be a very health conscious version of it. For the main dishes we ordered the Adana Kebab (served with rice and green salad) and the Iskender (doner with fried bread, tomato sauce and yogurt). I've been looking for Iskender for over a year and this definitely hit the spot. For dessert we ordered Kunefe which was made perfectly. It had the right amount of Syrup, a good amount of cheese inside and the crispiness was on point. Overall great service, great food and great restaurant!

We had a lovely time here. Our barterders were very friendly and made it fun to sit at the bar. We throughly enjoyed our cocktails. Chicken Adona was tender and nicely spiced. Falafel was really tasty! Everything was great except pita bread wasn't as good.

Fantastic! The food was amazing, as was the ambiance and service. The falafel & hummus appetizer and lamb shish kabob plate were both delicious. I accidentally left my camera behind at the restaurant, and the owner went above and beyond in getting it back to me. Parking was easy to find in the very cute Gaslamp Quarter, and it is a short walk from waterfront hotels. Highly recommended!

I stopped by this place with some girlfriends before we watched a comedy show at Balboa! Service was quick and efficient, food was delicious, and the restaurant was nice with plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating. Parking is difficult in this area per usual, but there are plenty of paid lots nearby. Food/cocktail review: Summer rose: (3/5) It was OK. It was refreshing but the flavors didn’t blend well. Pistachio espresso martini: (5/5) I personally cannot drink coffee, but I did take a sip for review purposes lol. I really liked the foam on top, very tasty and different than anything I’ve tried before. Hummus trio: (5/5) The different types of hummus were delicious! It came with plenty of pita for dipping. Dolma: (5/5) Delicious!! They’re the perfect size and are very refreshing and tasty. We ended up ordering 2 of these because they were so good! Mimoza house salad w/chicken: (5/5) Refreshing, tasty, and a good portion for sharing. I could’ve eaten this as my main course, the dressing was delicious! Cheese borek: (5/5) Cooked to perfection. It was flaky, warm, and soooo good!! We ended up ordering the spinach one as well (not as good, in my opinion)

While visiting San Diego, we decided to have dinner at this Mediterranean restaurant. The hummus was decent, and the falafel was quite good. The doner kebab wrap was a little dry on its own, but the tahini helped balance it out. Tugba, our server, was incredibly sweet and exceptional—she made the experience even better. We especially loved the desserts: both the künefe and kazandibi were outstanding and easily the highlight of the meal. Overall, a pleasant dining experience with good service and delicious desserts.
